My working day programme does not usually have a
firm schedule. I wake up around 7 a.m. or even earlier when I go to the gym in
the morning. I usually come to the office between 8 and 9 a.m. As soon as I get
to work, I immediately check my e-mails, the breaking news from the overseas
markets, and I also update the portfolios that are under my management.
According to the cash flow needs of each portfolio, I perform necessary trades
and adjustments. At this time, I also have to attend a lot of irregular
meetings or tele-conferences with the KBC group, which we are part of, as well
as with our colleagues from other departments if necessary.
11:00 - 14:00
After lunch, I usually check the investment
opportunities and discuss them with our investment analysts. I focus on fixed
income world, so most of the time I look at various investments, mainly in corporate
and government bonds from the EU region. I am also responsible for balanced
funds of funds. I have to plan the setting of asset allocation and discuss it with
my colleagues in Belgium to cover all the topics on the broad scope of the financial
markets.
14:00 - 17:00
In the afternoon, I check and analyse economic
data coming from US markets. As a portfolio manager I have to devote 20 percent
of my time to sales support. With this in mind, I try to respond to all their questions.
Since I am also responsible for the investment point of view of ČSOB insurance
company investment strategy, our group client, I also respond to their
requests, provide new investment ideas, and execute the necessary investments.
17:00 - 20:00
I usually leave my office between 5 and 6 p.m. and
then to gym. I like playing soccer or floorball, too. I usually finish exercising
at 8 p.m. When I get home I spend my free time with my girlfriend or go for a
beer with my friends. However, in the evening, I tend to check the current situation
in the US markets as they close at 10 p.m. I usually go to bed between 11 p.m.
and midnight.
