Fortunately,
I am an early riser and so it is not a big problem for me to start working very
early at 6:00 in my home office. I prepare the morning report for our clients,
focusing on the latest developments in local and global economies and financial
markets, i.e., currencies and fixed income.
After sending the report at around 6:45 it is time for preparing breakfast for my family. After dropping my daughters at school, I arrive at my office in the centre of Prague at around 7:45. The first thing in the office is to check my emails and prepare for an around 15-minute meeting with KB dealers and sales persons. After a short coffee break, I am ready for an around 30-minute meeting with the head of KB investment banking. We discuss news from the economic and financial market world and implications for our business.

During
the day, the schedule is different from day to day, ranging from analytical
work – comments on just released data or new information for clients and the
media, work on new macroeconomic forecasts or other relevant research reports –
to “sales” work, meeting our clients and presenting our view of the economy or
financial markets to them, to the “management” part of my work – meetings with the
senior management, heads of departments, etc. Lunch time is usually used for
business lunches or spent with my economists and equity analysts.
14:00
– 17:00
In
late afternoon, it is time to assess the day on markets, and prepare the afternoon
commentaries for clients and journalists and draft the morning report for the following
day. I usually leave my office latest 5pm. Two late afternoons per week I spend
with my students at the University of Economics in Prague. I am a lecturer at
the Faculty of Finance and Accounting, where I teach two courses: Currency Trading and Economic Analysis and Prognosis. On days
I am not teaching, I do some sports. I am keen on playing tennis, and a few
years ago I started jogging.
17:00
– 20:00
I
spend around one hour dealing with my emails in my home office in the evening and
that is all for my workday. The rest of my time I spend mainly with my family
or friends. I usually go to bed at around 10pm, reading a good book for a
while, not necessarily professional publications.
